“Group of cyclists from the West Coast region, with a mixture of penny farthing and early safety bicycles, photographed, probably in the 1890s, by James Ring of Greymouth.”
(An interesting group from the transitional period between ordinaries and safety bicycles. Some of the riders have caps with what looks like a club badge on them, while others are wearing hats. For what it’s worth, none of the safeties seem to have pneumatic tires. It would be fascinating to know what sort of debates and/or rivalries went on between the riders of the two different types of bicycles at this time.)
